What every Filipino should know about "NOYBI"
Thursday, 20 May 2010 09:05

Emmanuel_Tipon"One of the 'dangerous character traits' of a general is complacency." - Emmanuel S. Tipon, paraphrasing Sun Tzu in The Art of War.

Many in America can't understand why Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino who is from one party (Liberal) and Jejomar Binay who is from another  (Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino) are winning the Philippine presidential elections. Filipinos have more freedom than Americans in electing their leaders.  Filipinos can vote separately for President and Vice President. Americans cannot. They must vote for the Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates as a team.

WHY ESCUDERO PROMOTED NOYBI

"NOYBI" is the acronym for "Noynoy-Binay". Senator Chiz Escudero  is the godfather of NOYBI. Noynoy is Escudero's compadre. (Chiz's child is Noynoy's godchild). Mayor Binay is Escudero's good friend. Binay is the running mate of Joseph Estrada but he didn't vote for Binay claiming he couldn't see well without glasses. Mar Roxas is the running mate of Noynoy.  If the partial results hold (Binay has an 800,000 vote lead over Roxas), the new Filipino leaders will be NOYBI.

Success can be dangerous
Monday, 17 May 2010 10:31
Fel_face_picSUCCESS CAN BE DANGEROUS.   IT CAN BREED ARROGANCE.  SOMETIMES, IT IS BETTER TO FAIL.  FAILURE FOSTERS HUMILITY.  AND HUMILITY WILL WIN YOU MORE POINTS WITH PEOPLE THAN ARROGANCE.

UNIVERSE.   The space shuttle Atlantis lifted off this week on its final planned mission.  The six astronauts on board plan to deliver an integrated cargo carrier and a Russian-built mini-research module to the international space station. They also plan to bring a "set of batteries for the station's truss and dish antenna, along with other replacement parts," NASA says.  In addition to the mission, NASA has plans for two space shuttle missions before the program.

WORLD.  The UN commission entrusted with harmonizing economic development with envi-ronmental conservation wrapped up its annual session this week with Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon warning that the world is way behind schedule in setting its ecological house in order. “Few of the challenges identified at the Rio Earth Summit have been adequately tackled,” he told delegates at the 18th session of the Commission on Sustainable Development at Geneva.

Aquino: Messiah or moron?
Thursday, 13 May 2010 12:08

Emmanuel_Tipon“There is much to fear if Aquino wins the 2010 presidency, and it is important that we are afraid. Messiah or moron, if he is elected, his fall will be ours.” Method to Madness, Patricia Evangelista, Philippine Daily Inquirer, 05/09/10.

I observed the voting at Araullo high school in Manila. It was honest and orderly. The results were known within an hour after the polls closed. The precinct count optical scanner  worked contrary to fears by many including some wealthy FilAms from the East Coast who inappropriately asked Obama to call for an investigation..

There were  more voters against Aquino than those for him. When the Comelec stopped publicizing its unofficial count Aquino had 13,165,000 votes compared to 18,231,000 votes for the other candidates.

Most of those voting for Aquino did so because they believe that he is the Messiah who will lead the Filipino people from this impoverished land of graft and corruption to the promised land of milk and honey. His battle cry was “walang mahirap kung walang corrupt.” (there is no poor if there is no corrupt).

Be your own author
Tuesday, 11 May 2010 11:07
Fel_face_picALL GOOD MEN ARE HAPPY WHEN THEY CHOOSE TO BE THEIR OWN AUTHORS. THOSE WHO CHOOSE TO HAVE OTHERS EDIT THEIR PATHWAYS, MUST LIVE ON THE EDGE OF ANOTHER MAN'S SWORD.

UNIVERSE.  The recent discovery of an asteroid wrapped in a layer of water ice has revived the possibility that some space rocks would be great potential pit stops—or destinations--for manned or robotic exploration missions. If a space destination has water, astronauts traveling there could potentially use it for drinking and washing. But much more importantly, the water could be bro-ken down into its component parts (hydrogen and oxygen) to make rocket fuel, experts say.

WORLD.   UNESCO spearheaded the global celebration of World Press Freedom Day 20l0 this week.  This day reminds people that many journalists brave death or face jail to bring daily news to the public. World Press Freedom Day is annually observed on May 3 to inform the international community that freedom of the press and freedom of expression are fundamental human rights. World Press Freedom Day was established by the United Nations in December 1993.

Letting go
Wednesday, 05 May 2010 13:30
Fel_face_picIT IS HARD TO LET GO OFF SOMEONE WHO HAS TOUCHED YOUR LIFE.   BUT  IT HURTS MORE TO LET GO OFF SOMEONE WHO HAD NEVER BEEN YOURS YET CHANGED YOUR LIFE THE MOST.

UNIVERSE.   Scientists haven't found ET just yet, but they may be pinning down the best places and ways to look for alien life during future space missions. Experts on the search for extraterres-trial life spoke to reporters from the Astrobiology Science Conference near Houston to celebrate 50 years of astrobiology research.  Scientists there are still eager to find life elsewhere in the universe despite the firestorm this week kicked off by famed cosmologist Stephen Hawking.

WORLD.   A proud Shanghai threw open the gates of the 20l0 World Expo this week, kicking off an event that underscores the Chinese financial hub’s comeback as a major world city after decades of Spartan industrialism.  Like the 2008 Olympics, the world Expo is showcasing China’s growing economic and geopolitical sway, both for the world and for its own public. The Expo is expected to draw 70 million people over six months to pavilions from almost 200 nations.

An Open Letter to the US Ambassador to the Phils.

Ambassador Harry K. Thomas
United States Ambassador to the Philippines
Manila

Dear Sir:

"It is easier for a camel to enter the eye of a needle than for a non-white lawyer to enter the U.S. Consulate in Manila and talk with a consular officer." - Emmanuel S. Tipon in The Consular Posts Book.

We are pregnant with hope that you will breathe the breath of life into your pledge to support "human rights" in the Philippines.

The best way to redeem your pledge is not to sing and dance in the barrios or in Wowowee but to look at the human rights abuses inside the U.S. Embassy in Manila. We have co-authored a book detailing some of them. We would like to personally present you with a copy.

When a person approaches the Filipino guards at the Embassy their rudeness and arrogance unmakes the day for many Filipinos. Once you give a Filipino a gun and station him at the U.S. Embassy, his demeanor is transformed from piousness to pompousness. Get rid of those guards. They cannot protect the U.S. Embassy. They will likely run away at the first sound of gun fire. Replace them with U.S. Marines.

Freedom of Choice
Monday, 26 April 2010 09:42

Fel_face_picAS HUMAN BEINGS, WE ARE ENDOWED WITH FREEDOM OF CHOICE, AND WE CANNOT SHUFFLE OFF OUR RESPONSIBILITY UPON THE SHOULDERS OF GOD OR NATURE.  WE MUST SHOULDER IT OURSELVES.  IT’S OUR RESPONSIBILITY.

UNIVERSE.  The first images of the sun beamed home from NASA's newest solar observatory have wowed mission scientists with their extraordinary detail and unexpected findings.  NASA this week released the first new images from the Solar Dynamics Observatory, a probe launched on February 11 to peer deep into the layers of the sun, monitor solar storms and investigate the mysteries of the sun's inner workings.

WORLD.  Actress Sigourney Weaver warned of the dangers facing oceans, President Barack Obama threw a White House party, and UN chief Ban Ki-moon urged the world to kick the carbon habit--all in honor of planet Earth.  They were part of a galaxy of stars from the political, show business and sports worlds who shone the spotlight on Mother Nature as the USA marked the 40th anniversary of Earth Day this week. Earth Day was "created" in 1970.
