Sexting cop using government phone caught
Friday, 02 July 2010 13:03

Emmanuel_Tipon "Sext" in ecclesiastical terms refers to "sexta hora" or the sixth hour of the day (noon) which is a time for prayer. "Sexting" has nothing to do with praying, although it could result in a missionary position. "Sexting is the act of sending sexually explicit messages or photographs, primarily between mobile phones." Wikipedia

A California city cop was given a government pager to send and receive text messages, with a limited number of characters each month, and any excess resulting in additional fees.

The cop exceeded his text character allotment for several months but paid the overage. His boss said he would determine whether the character limit was too low or the overages were for personal messages. The wireless provider provided transcripts of text messages sent by the cop and others who had exceeded the character allowance. The boss reviewed the cop's transcripts and found that many of the messages were not work related and some were sexually explicit. In one month, the cop sent 456 messages during work hours of which no more than 57 were work related. Some of the messages were sent to his wife and his girlfriend. The cop was disciplined.

COMPUTER POLICY

The city's Computer Policy specified that the city "reserves the right to monitor and log all network activity including e-mail and Internet use," and "Users should have no expectation of privacy or confidentiality when using these resources." The cop acknowledged reading the policy. Although the policy did not explicitly cover text messages the city made clear that it would treat text messages like e-mails.

The law of emotional choice
Friday, 02 July 2010 12:55

Fel_face_picYOU CAN’T EXPECT TO PREVENT NEGATIVE FEELINGS ALTOGETHER.  AND YOU CAN’T EXPECT TO EXPERIENCE POSITIVE FEELINGS ALL THE TIME.  THE LAW OF EMOTIONAL CHOICE DIRECTS US TO ACKNOWLEDGE OUR FEELINGS BUT ALSO TO REFUSE TO GET STUCK IN THE NEGATIVE ONES.

UNIVERSE.   The Moon might be much wetter than previously thought of, a group of scientists has said.  A US-led team analyzed the mineral apatite in lunar rocks picked up by the Apollo space missions and in a lunar meteorite found in North Africa.  The scientists found that there was at least 100 times more water in the Moon's minerals than they had previously believed.  This group is one of several different teams of researchers hunting for evidence of water on the Moon.

WORLD. The 2010 FIFA World Cup Finals began this week at Johannesburg, South Africa’s Soccer City stadium. The Opening Ceremony took place in the morning, and was full of dancers in brightly colored costumes, fans decked out in face paint, and what looked like a giant melting pot.   The World Cup is the most widely viewed sporting event in the world. The current World Cup is being held in South Africa, between June ll and 11 July—the first time ever in the black continent.

CUBA.  A group of well-known Cuban dissidents has urged the US Congress to pass legislation which would allow American citizens to travel to Cuba freely.  American nationals are currently not allowed to spend money in Cuba without securing special permission.  In an open letter, the 74 dissidents said that Cuba's isolation played into the hands of  Havana's most inflexible interests.

Woman will give most precious possession for green card
Friday, 02 July 2010 12:31

Emmanuel_Tipon"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change those things I can change, and the wisdom to know the difference." - Serenity Prayer

Fuera de los buenos. There are a number of women who have given, or are willing to give, their most precious possession for a green card. If you don't know what is a woman's most precious possession, you haven't been around women. I met some on my last trip to the Philippines. This is not the time and place to talk about the savory details.

You have a chance to achieve the American Dream "for a fistful of dollars." Yet we hear the usual whiners complaining about the proposed increase in fees for applying for immigration benefits. Why not count your blessings - you can apply for benefits. Others, like the women I met, cannot, for the nonce.

FIANCEE/FIANCE & OTHER VISA FEES BEING REDUCED

Most of those complaining about fee increases are purveying half truths. They are, in the words of the late U.S. Vice President Spiro Agnew "nattering nabobs of negativism." They are not telling you the positive news - that fees are being reduced for applying for certain well-known immigration benefits. So you will know the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, here is the link to the USCIS Proposed Fee Rule Press Release:

The true test of character
Tuesday, 08 June 2010 07:42

Fel_face_picTHE TRUE TEST OF CHARACTER IS GENUINE TESTIMONIALS, NOT FROM THE UPPER PART OF THE SOCIETY BUT RATHER FROM THE ORDINARY PEOPLE.  THEY MAY BE REGARDED BY MANY AS MEN AND INSIGNIFICANT, BUT THEY WILL ONLY SPEAK OF THE TRUTH WITHOUT HESITATION.

UNIVERSE. An amateur astronomer in Australia peering at the giant gas planet this week reported witnessing a bright flash from an object hitting the Jovian surface.  Anthony Wesley, a computer programmer, alerted the cosmic collision to professional and amateur sky-gazers.  Wesley gained fame last year when he spotted a scar the size of the Pacific Ocean near Jupiter’s south pole believed to have been caused by an asteroid smacking into the plant.

WORLD.  In observance of World No Tobacco Day 2010, the World Health Organization is urging global action to protect women and girls against the sickness and suffering caused by tobacco use. It is held on May 3l each year starting in l988 pursuant to World Health Assembly Resolutions. This year’s campaign theme, Gender and tobacco with an emphasis on marketing to women, focuses on the harmful effects of tobacco marketing towards women and girls.

Silence: Does it mean "Yes" or "No"?
Monday, 07 June 2010 09:03

Emmanuel_TiponTales of Miranda and Thompkins

"In restless dreams I walked alone . . .
And touched the sound of silence . . .
'Fools,' said I, 'you do not know
Silence like a cancer grows.'
'Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you.'
---The Sound of Silence by Simon & Garfunkel

In the world of romance, when a woman remains silent in the face of a suitor's advances, the aggressive suitor will take it to mean "yes" and proceed to make love to a successful climax. However, there are those contending that a woman's silence means "no" and if the suitor advances that could be rape.

Some men have been accused of raping their wives who said nothing when the husband made romantic overtures A few naughty women say nothing and when the husband is about to have an orgasm shout "stop it." If he doesn't, they cry "rape". That is cruel and inhuman.

Alaskan Trip
Wednesday, 02 June 2010 08:26
alaska1When I saw the sign, Ted Stevens International Airport (over two weeks ago), named after then Alaska’s senior US Senator,  I knew I had landed again at the place that I called home for so many years before.  It was my first time to see the new rebuilt airport after we moved out of Anchorage, seven years ago to Hawaii. The inside of the new airport is so much better than the old one. Spaciously built.  My oldest son Brad and his son (my grandson Kevin) were already there awaiting near the stairs to the baggage area,  both smiling broadly. I was so happy to see them and they were also happy to see me.
