Suing Arizona - will it secede from Union?
Saturday, 17 July 2010 13:08

Emmanuel_TiponThe Confederate states seceded from the Union on the issue of slavery. Will Arizona - and about 17 other states thinking along the same lines as Arizona - secede from the Union on the issue of illegal aliens? The issue of illegal aliens is more serious than slavery. Abolishing slavery meant taking away someone doing a job you wouldn't do. Protecting illegal aliens means taking away your job.

Employment of illegal aliens in times of high unemployment deprives citizens and legally admitted aliens of jobs; acceptance by illegal aliens of jobs on substandard terms as to wages and working conditions can seriously depress wage scales and working conditions of citizens and legally admitted aliens; and employment of illegal aliens under such conditions can diminish the effectiveness of labor unions." De Canas v. Bica, 424 U.S. 351.

Frustrated with the deluge of illegals and the failure of the feds to stop it, Arizona enacted S.B. 1070 "to discourage and deter the unlawful entry and presence of aliens".

THE LAWSUIT; ITS MOTIVE AND LOGIC OR ILLOGIC

The Obama administration sued Arizona alleging that (1) the federal government under the constitution has preeminent authority to regulate immigration matters, (2) Arizona's law is an immigration law, (3) therefore Arizona's law is unconstitutional. United States v. Arizona.

Private organizations have sued Arizona. Why would the administration still sue? "The lawsuit . . . might allow the Obama administration to feel righteous, pretend it's doing something about the nation's immigration mess, and appeal to Hispanic voters ahead of November's congressional elections." USA Today 07/07/10.

Give voice to your feelings
Tuesday, 13 July 2010 10:41

Fel_face_picGIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION WHEN YOU ARE FACED WITH A SERIOUS SITUATION TO GIVE VOICE TO YOUR FEELINGS.   SMILE,  HOLD  YOUR  HEAD UP HIGH, AND PUT YOUR RIGHT FOOT FORWARD.

UNIVERSE.  A canister recovered from the first spacecraft to land on an asteroid and return to Earth, contains dust particles, say Japanese scientists.  Japan's space agency began to open the Hayabusa craft's sample container on June 24.  It has now revealed images of tiny dust particles inside the container. Whether the particles are from the near-Earth asteroid, Itokawa, or from Earth is still unknown.  Jaxa released two photographs of the Hayabusa sample container.

WORLD.   Spain rules the soccer world, winning the World Cup at long, long last.  It came after an exhausting 1-0 victory in extra time over the Netherlands. This was a physical test of attrition that sometimes turned dirty--a finals-record 11 yellow cards were handed out and the Dutch finished with 10 men.  Netherlands was unbeaten not only in this tournament, but in qualifying for the first World Cup staged in South Africa. The Spaniards, though, were the winners.

Death of a petitioner
Wednesday, 07 July 2010 11:51

Emmanuel_TiponVisa petition does not automatically die with petitioner's death

"Then he (Isaac) said, 'Behold now, I am old. I do not know the day of my death." Genesis 27:2
"So David made abundant preparations before his death." 1 Chronicles 22:5.

Prayers alone are insufficient to resurrect a dead petitioner's petition. "God helps those who help themselves." Biblical folks knew that death would surely come but they did not know when. So they prepared for death, unlike many immigration petitioners. Thus, when such petitioners die before their beneficiaries get a visa, their beneficiaries are told: when the petitioner dies, the visa petition automatically dies with him/her.

I do not believe in automatic revocation. I believe in resurrection. There is relief for beneficiaries of dead petitioners. But it is difficult and expensive - certainly more expensive than the $355 visa petition filing fee.

This issue might be avoided if all eligible petitioners filed a petition for the beneficiary. If a qualified parent files for his child, why does not the qualified spouse file, too? If the child has a USC sibling, why does not the sibling file, too? If one petitioner dies, other live petitioners will remain. The most common answer: "To save money." As Ava Gardner told James Mason in "Pandora and the Flying Dutchman": "The measure of one's love is what one is willing to give up for it."

Keep your dreams alive
Wednesday, 07 July 2010 11:43

Fel_face_picKEEP YOUR DREAMS ALIVE.  UNDERSTAND THAT TO ACHIEVE ANYTHING REQUIRES FAITH AND BELIEF IN YOURSELF, VISION, HARD WORK, DETER-MINATION, AND DEDICATION.  REMEMBER THAT ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE FOR THOSE WHO BELIEVE.

UNIVERSE.  Europe's Herschel space telescope has spied a far-distant galaxy with the aid of a cosmic "zoom lens".  The observatory is already one of the most powerful astronomical tools ever built, but its abilities can be boosted thanks to a neat trick of gravity. By viewing a huge cluster of galaxies, Herschel has been able to study in detail an even more distant object. This is possible because the gravity of the foreground cluster magnifies the light of the background galaxy.

WORLD.  School feeding programs, which provide meals so that millions of children in poor countries can attend classes, can be broadened to reach even more pupils.  Some 66 million schoolchildren in dozens of countries currently receive meals through the programs. Nancy Walters, chief of school feeding policy at WFP, told a New York forum on hunger that the pro-grams have many benefits beyond the immediate goal of ensuring children do not go hungry.
