Facebook has reached a milestone. There are now 500 million subscribers or account holders, according to USA Today (we call it "USA Yesterday" in Hawaii because it arrives the next day).

Facebook is a social networking website where account holders or subscribers exchange or post electronic communications. This is the modern day equivalent of the "traditional cork-and-pin bulletin board on which people post messages, advertisements, or community news."

Almost daily I receive an email from folks I know and don't know asking me to be their "friend" on Facebook. I have deleted all such emails.

I DON'T WANT TO BE VICTIMIZED

The Philippine police were looking for a suspect in the killing of an American. They did not have a clear picture of him for the "Wanted" poster. They searched the internet and found the suspect's Facebook page and clearer pictures plus links to the victim. He even used the victim's family name as an alias, indicating he knew the victim. See Manila Standard, 07/25/10. Aha. Exhibit "A". "Patay kang bata ka," as they say in Tagalog.

UNIVERSE.  Thousands of tourists and scientists have descended on Chile's Easter Island to catch sight of Sunday's total solar eclipse. The eclipse will only be visible from a small section of land, ending over southern parts of Chile and Argentina. The eclipse starts at 1815 GMT about 700km (440 miles) southeast of Tonga, reaching Easter Island by 2011 GMT. The population of Easter Island is expected to double to 8,000--but the eclipse could be hit by cloud cover.

WORLD.  The world is enduring the hottest year on record, according to a US national weather analysis, causing droughts worldwide and a concern for US farmers counting on another bumper year.  For the first six months of the year, 2010 has been warmer than the first half of 1998, the previous record holder, by 0.03 degree Fahrenheit, said the National Climatic Data Center.  A period of an El Nino weather pattern is being blamed for the hot temperatures globally.

What is the best defense to a deportation charge? I am a U.S. citizen. A FilAm in deportation proceedings claimed he was a U.S. citizen by birth which he derived from his parents who were born in the Philippines when it was still a U.S. territory until July 4, 1946, hence they were U.S. citizens at birth.

On July 9, 2010, the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit tackled the issue thus:

CITIZENSHIP CLAUSE

“All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.” U.S. Constitution, 14th Amendment.

ANTI-SLAVERY CLAUSE

“Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.” – U.S. Constitution, 13th Amendment, Section 1.

REVENUE CLAUSE

“. . . all duties, and excises shall be uniform throughout the United States” U.S. Constitution, Art. I, § 8.

He is the youngest child of Mr and Mrs Candido and Cita Ugalino of Wahiawa, Hawaii.  Candido formerly from San Clemente, Magsingal. and Cita originally from Cagayan. Jordan has two older brothers and two older sisters.

Suing Arizona - will it secede from Union?

Will Arizona - and about 17 other states thinking along the same lines as Arizona - secede from the Union on the issue of illegal aliens? The issue of illegal aliens is more serious than slavery. Abolishing slavery meant taking away someone doing a job you wouldn't do. Protecting illegal aliens means taking away your job.

Employment of illegal aliens in times of high unemployment deprives citizens and legally admitted aliens of jobs; acceptance by illegal aliens of jobs on substandard terms as to wages and working conditions can seriously depress wage scales and working conditions of citizens and legally admitted aliens; and employment of illegal aliens under such conditions can diminish the effectiveness of labor unions." De Canas v. Bica, 424 U.S. 351.


Frustrated with the deluge of illegals and the failure of the feds to stop it, Arizona enacted S.B. 1070 "to discourage and deter the unlawful entry and presence of aliens".

THE LAWSUIT; ITS MOTIVE AND LOGIC OR ILLOGIC

The Obama administration sued Arizona alleging that (1) the federal government under the constitution has preeminent authority to regulate immigration matters, (2) Arizona's law is an immigration law, (3) therefore Arizona's law is unconstitutional. United States v. Arizona.

Private organizations have sued Arizona. Why would the administration still sue? "The lawsuit . . . might allow the Obama administration to feel righteous, pretend it's doing something about the nation's immigration mess, and appeal to Hispanic voters ahead of November's congressional elections." USA Today 07/07/10.

We have the final date schedule of our SWI GRAND GLOBAL REUNION; It will... be on APRIL 24 and 25,2011, which will fall on EASTER SUNDAY 2011 and an ordinary Monday.

We have already distributed 350 copies to some SWI batch coordinators and barangay coordinators;We also requested SWI to distribute said solicitation letter to all the students for this year and Sister Teresita,the principal gave us a positive response to this request.
